A North Carolina charity in Charlotte, formed in 2023 to empower young women through education and support.
Our purpose
When Set Out And Restore registered with the Internal Revenue Service it had to say, in its own words, what it exists to do. That statement is still the clearest description of the organization, and it has not changed:
Set Out And Restore exists to empower young women through education and support, so that they can grow into their own lives and contribute to the communities around them.
The Internal Revenue Service classifies the work as Services to Promote the Independence of Specific Populations (NTEE P80), and its purpose as charitable and educational. Both fit: this is educational work aimed at independence.

What the name means
Set out is a beginning — a young woman starting something, often without the footing that others take for granted.
Restore is the other half. Many of the young women this work is for are not starting from nothing; they are starting again, and what they need is not pity but the means to rebuild.
Together they make SOAR, which is the shorter way we say it.
Where we work
The organization is registered in North Carolina and based in Charlotte, at an address in the Berewick area of the city's south-west.
It was incorporated on February 15, 2023 and filed Articles of Amendment on July 27, 2023. Federal tax exemption took effect in April 2023.
Where we are in our life as an organization
Set Out And Restore is young and small. In its first full year it raised nothing and spent $4,297 — on professional fees, printing and postage, travel and office costs — the ordinary expenses of getting a charity properly established. No one drew a salary. Those figures are published in full on this site rather than summarised away.
We would rather say that plainly than dress it up. An organization at this stage is asking people to back an intention, and the honest thing is to show the intention, the credentials behind it, and the accounts, and let people decide.
